Arun Valley Trek is one of the unexplored, marvelous and off the beaten path trekking in Nepal. It is a low altitude trekking in eastern Nepal.
This trek follows the route of Arun River, which is located in between two giant mountains – Everest and Makalu. Tumlingtar and Lukla are the starting and ending points of the trek respectively.
The Arun valley trek offers an incredible opportunity to explore the village life with typical folk dance and songs.
Orchids and other flowers along a faint jungle trail, swirl prayer flags at Shipton La, walking through this picturesque Sherpa village are the attraction of the Arun valley region. Walking north up the Arun river to Sedua and Num, then crossing Barun La (4110m) into the upper Barun Khola valley for a close look at Makalu (8463m). Likewise, the trekking route offers dramatic views of the landscape and the beautiful scenery of mighty Himalayan peaks.
One can enjoy the views of Mount Everest, Mt. Makalu, Mt.Baruntse, Mt.Lhotse, Mt.Nuptse, Mt. Amadablam, Mt.Thamserku, etc in their walking journey. Mind-blowing music and the age-old culture of the Nepalese hilly region are the highlights for travelers.

Best Time/Season for Arun Valley Trek
Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) are the best months for Arun Valley Trek. Where normally days are sunny, the temperature is perfect, the sky is clear and Mountain remains crystal.
This trek can be done in Monsoon (June to August ) but you should not expect the great weather and Mountain view.
You can do it in Winter (December to February) if you are used to with extreme cold temperature.
Foods and Accommodations on Arun Valley Trek
Foods
Nepal is such an easy place to get several vegetarian options so no worries if you are a vegetarian or vegan. You can enjoy typical Nepali food as well as continental, Italian, Indian and Tibetan. Freshly cooked and hygienic dinner and breakfast are served at the camp and lunch will be served on the way to the next destination which will be prepared by our own chef.
Only breakfast is served in Kathmandu whilst farewell dinner on the eve of your international departure is served from our side. All the meals (B/L/D) are on full board basis during the trek.
Accommodations
All the accommodation as per the itinerary is included in the package cost. We have chosen the 2/3 star hotel in the cities for your comfort and safety. The hotels can be upgraded to more deluxe ones upon your request.
While trekking in the Mountain, our guides will choose the best available lodge of the village from their past experience. As some villages have limited number of lodges, in a peak season like in Spring and Autumn, you may have to share the room with some stranger trekker as well.
Comfortable two men tent with mattress and four seasons sleeping bag will be provided for the camping trek. Our crew will try to set the camp in a scenic place. All the hotel and camping accommodations are as per twin sharing basis unless you are of different gender.
Required Documents (Permits) for Arun Valley Trek
On this trek, you’ll have to pay for TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System), Arun Barunche national park, and Sagarmatha National park entry fees.
Makalu Barun National Park and Sagarmatha National Park entry permit fee for foreigners: 3,000 NPR + 13% VAT, totaling 3,390 NPR (Approx. US $34) each and for SAARC nationals: 1,500 NPR each.
