Best Season for Annapurna Circuit Trek

In Annapurna region, trekking can be done at any time of the year. However, Autumn is the best time or season.

And after Autumn, Spring is the second best time, since it is the season of colors.

During these times, the weather and temperature conditions at the Annapurna region will remain perfectly stable.

Autumn (September, October, November)

It is the perfect time to trek in Annapurna with the bluest skies and the clearest views.

During this  time of the year when the temperature remains moderate i.e. it is neither too hot nor too cold. So, you will have the most comfortable trekking experiences in the trails of Annapurna region.

And the surreal Tillicho lake shines in its best colors thus making your whole trek blissful.

Spring (March, April, May)

Spring is the second best time to trek in Annapurna region.

It is time after the winter season when the sun starts to shine brightly thus melting the snow and making the trails clearer and drier.

Moreover, the weather in these seasons remains quite stable than in other months. Although the weather in the mountains remains quite unpredictable it remains quite stable in Spring. The hot surrounding makes the treks in the high altitude quite easy and comfortable.

Spring is the time of rhododendron blossoms in the lower elevations of the trek. But as you go higher, the lush vegetation becomes scarce.

This is the time of the year when you will have lesser difficulty to walk across the Thorung La Pass, 5416 meters because of the bearable weather and moderate climatic conditions.

Summer/Monsoon (June, July, August)

Although it’s difficult to walk or trek on the lower regions due to rainfall, it’s possible to trek in Annapurna regions with the most beautiful views of green lush vegetation, water falls, rivers and paddy fields.

The higher altitude, Annapurna Circuit region higher from Chame does not receive rainfall. It is a rainshadow region with dry weather throughout the year.

So, in this season the lesser crowd and the dry weather makes your trek awesome. This is the time of summer so the weather is quite warm. This means you do not have to worry about the frost bites and snow that may add trek difficulty.

Food and Accommodation

During our trek, we can enjoy authentic Nepalese food as well the more common international cuisine (Tibetan, Continental, Italian, Indian, etc.).

Breakfast and dinner will be provided from the teahouse or from a lodge menu where we spend the night whereas lunch will be provided on the way to the next destination.

While in Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will be staying in hotels. But on the trek, we will be staying on tea houses.

All accommodations are on twin-shared basis.

We will arrange rooms with attached washrooms; however, teahouses in some places only have shared washing and toilet facilities.

Also note that single rooms are readily available in Kathmandu, Pokhara and the trekking regions at lower elevation but it might be difficult to find them at higher elevations.

Required Documents

The two mandatory permits one needs to have before trekking in this region are as follows

  1. TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System): It is required to trek in major trekking trails within Nepal, including the Annapurna Circuit Trek.
  2. ACAP (Annapurna Conservation Area Permit): It  is required for your entry to the Annapurna Conservation Area (ACA) since the ACA includes a major portion of the trek.

However, Nepalis do not need TIMS permit for the trek, but ACAP permit is mandatory for all. You can get these permits primarily from the offices of Nepal Tourism Board in Kathmandu and Pokhara.
